Mothers Market

I recently went along to a local Mothers Market, and I have to say I was impressed with the talent and creativity, and unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately) for me I had accidently left my wallet at home, and my spending was thus curbed! I did manage to borrow some money off a friend and came away with the cutest plush owl.

Check out some of the talent and most stall holders either have online sales, or you could email for more details…

Gorgeous dresses that I salivated over from Loz & Dinny:

Baby Hoot had stunning blankets, and this cute little owl with ribbon tags on the bottom. It has become Tallulah’s favourite bedtime toy!

Miss Haidee had the cutest swimwear for both mums, bubs and kids, as well as teeny maxi dresses straight out of woodstock (yes I salivated over these as well!)

Cherish had beautiful emroidered and patchwork quilts, cute clothing and the ultimate santa sacks!

Dick & Dora featured acrylic brooches and funky christmas decorations:

There were many more worthy stallholders, featuring all manner of things from christmas cookies, to cards, homewares, photography, hair accessories, toys etc. I will definitely be keeping my ear to the ground for the next one!

Pump up the jam

We have a sliding door in our kitchen that we regularly keep open to make sure the warmth goes up to the bedrooms. When we moved into the house the door had a grimey looking rubber door stop that soon got kidnapped as a toy by the dogs. Since then we have taken to using a bit of folded up cardboard under the door to keep it open…. tres chic! If you want to keep the nursery door ajar so you can hear what your little one is up to… don’t use a crummy bit of cardboard! Get yourself one of these cute door stoppers from Happy Little Hippos.

More from Etsy

I am still on my Etsy bandwagon, enyoing uncovering hidden handmade gems! My latest finds are from seller Portland Beanie Company. Check out the cute knitted beanie and maryjanes… and the model is quite a cutie!

Catch me if you can

Any mum who has endorsed dummy (or pacifiers for those across the globe) use would know what a pain it is when they drop on the ground, and even worse when they roll under the couch or what not! But the dummy clips available at chemists and supermarkets are so ugly and reminiscent of the sunglass chains from the 80’s except with some random pic of a teddy or clown face on the clip that they are really a sight to behold (or not to behold as it might be). I have never fully explored the labyrinth of goodness that is Etsy, but I did stuble across these handmade dummy clips by seller lucabella0522. Think I might need to grab myself one! (oh and she makes other cool stuff too!)

Nip and Tuck

I am not making a statement about cosmetic surgery, but this book raises a lot of questions about what we are teaching the next generation. From what I understand the book is a tool for mums to explain to their kids that because they are “ugly” they need to have a tummy tuck and nose job to make them “beautiful”. Complete with pectorally enhanced Dr. Michael the plastic surgeon this book doesn’t seem to err on the side of acceptance and positive self image. And guess what… it is due for release on Mothers Day. So not sure what kind of message the mums will get if they receive this book from their kids without having had plans for plastic surgery of any kind! :o )

Sweet dreams are made of these

I was thrilled to discover that lullabies have come a long way since I remember! The first bar of Radiohead Lullabies can instantly (and almost magically) calm our hysterical baby! She loves her Coldplay ones as well. There is quite a big range of these available (I got mine from Kido Store), so you can train your little one with good music taste from the very beginning. Plus its nice on the parents ears! Now I have yet to try out what she’d think of the real thing now she is familiar with the tunes.

Welcome to Chic Mums!

I thought I’d start a blog where I can post all my baby-related stylish finds! Having just had my first baby I have been scouring the net to find funky items for our baby that doesn’t rob its parents of any sense of style just because they have become parents! (Why is it that the majority of baby items look like a cartoon character has vomited on them?)

And while you are here, please share your own finds, or have your own rant on the Chic Mums message boards! Sign up and post till your hearts content!
